Region of Central Dalmatia
Central Dalmatia includes the coast between the river Krka on north-west, and Makarska Riviera. Split is the administrative seat of Dalmatia. The most prominent place of interest in Split is Diocletian's Palace, one of the most precious monuments of Roman architecture on our Adriatic coast. The largest islands are Brac, Hvar, Vis, solta, Ciovo, Drvenik Mali and Drvenik Veliki, as well as Bisevo and Jabuka. Every island in Dalmatia offers hospitality, and is unique and beautiful in its own way. North of Split there is the town of Trogir, with the best-preserved historical nucleus, not just on the Adriatic but in the entire Central Europe. Trogir's medieval nucleus, surrounded by a city wall, includes a very well-preserved castle and tower, as well as many other buildings and palaces dating from the Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. The Makarska Riviera is located south of Split, and is one of the most visited holiday destinations in the Central Dalmatia. On Makarska riviera, tourism is quite developed and offers a variety of activities, recreation and accommodation. Guests can choose from accommodations such as apartments, rooms, hotels or campsites. The city of Makarska stands out in particular due to its beautiful sandy beaches surrounded by pine forest, and the Biokovo Nature Park standing in its background.
