The Island of Cres is in the northern part of the Kvarner region. Losinj Island and Cres Island are separated by just a narrow canal, but they offer different attractions and atmospheres. Compared to Losinj Island, the 68 kilometer-long island of Cres has a much wider surface and high cliffs.
Cres Island is famous for several unexplained phenomenon, such as the extremely clean freshwater of the 5-sq.km lake Vran known for its unique hydrological and geological characteristics. The island of Cres is also the home of the white-headed vulture, which cannot be found anywhere else.
Being a popular destination of nature lovers, Cres Island is friendly to tourists with accommodation on private homes, offering rooms and apartments for rent. Restaurants are found all around the island that boasts the traditional roasted lamb and exceptionally delicious seafood. Water activities on the island of Cres include deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, scuba diving, and sailing throughout Kvarner bay.
A visit to the island of Cres allows you to witness its cultural and historical heritage, but provides the modern facilities of a tourist destination. From Italy, Cres Island can be reached by taking a ferry to Mali Losinj and driving up to Cres. From Rijeka, Cres Island is just a two-and-a-half bus ride away.
