Located in the northern Dalmatia, just between Dugi Otok and Ugljan, the island of Iz is part of the Zadar archipelago. With an area of 18 sq. km, Iz Island features ten islets and spectacular cliffs throughout the island. The highest point, which is 168 meters high, is Korinjak.
The Island of Iz has numerous Romanesque buildings, a fortified castle, a 9th century chapel and an 11th century church, which are surrounded by approximately 70,000 olive trees. With about 560 inhabitants, the main occupations on Island Iz are agriculture and fishing, which are evident in the cultivation of over 70,000 olive trees and the fishing tradition on Mali Iz. Locals celebrate the festival of Iz, wherein a village king is elected complete with traditional costumes, crafts, sports and other fun events.
Although there are no sandy beaches on the island of Iz, there are two historical small villages Veli Iz and Mali Iz, which are both surrounded by fig trees and vegetable plantations. Veli Iz has over 300 available beds for accommodation and several restaurants and cafs around town, while Mali Iz has apartments, pension houses, rooms for rent and private accommodation available around Porovac, Muce, Makovac, Knez and Komoseva. Iz Island can be reached by ship from Zadar.
