The island of Rab, which covers 94 sq. km of Kvarner, is one of the greenest islands on the Adriatic coast. With three ridges protecting the island from cold winds, the climate difference from the mainland has made Rab Island a tourist destination. Known for its beautiful beaches, clear blue sea, and pleasant climate any time of the year, the island of Rab is just a 15-minute ride from the mainland. The island of Rab is home to some 9,000 people who live by fishing, shipbuilding, agriculture, and tourism.
The island Rab consists of several touristic towns, which include Palit, Banjol, Barbat, Mundanije, Lopar, Kampor, Supetarska Draga and the well preserved town of Rab. Although these towns have welcomed tourism development, the cultural-historical acts of architecture are still present, such as the Romanesque bell tower of St. Maria, the Palace of Nimira, the City Lodge and the church of St. Andrew, which are all located on Rab town. Other historical heritage on Rab town is the medieval Dominis Palace and the Gothic-Renaissance styled Rectors Palace.
Aside from visiting numerous places on the island of Rab, the island also offers a wide range of activities, including excursions to other islands, trekking, cycling, volleyball, paintball, tennis, miniature gold, sailing, diving and other water sports.
