The islands of Brijuni stretch along the southwest coast of the Istrian peninsula, from which they are separated by the Fazana Channel, which is 3 kilometers wide. They are some 6 km from Pula, with an area of 36km2. The coast is very well-indented; the total length of indented coast is 37,8 km. Vegetation is very abundant - Mediterranean: holm oak, laurel forests, pine, olives, rosemary and meadows. Throughout the entire archipelago there are free-roaming wild animals: deer and mouflons which were brought in in 1900. In 1978 a safari park was formed in an enclosed area with antelope, gazelle, ibex, zebras, camels, elephants, llamas. Freshwater morass "Soline" is a habitat for marsh birds.
