Funtana (Fontane:Italian) is a small fisherman town located in Istria, situated to the north of Vrsar. It is a little Istrian town that was urbanized by a stone palace situated on a hill that stood besides a church with bell-tower surrounded by stone alleys, dating back to ancient times. It is popular for its several fresh water springs and was originally named after it. During older days Funtana was popular for its freshwater springs. The development of tourism was initiated from 1960s, with building up of numerous campsites, family houses, rooms, apartments and a hotel village in an attractive region that stretched from Zelena laguna (Green Lagoon) to Valkanela. At present Fontana spreads over both the sides of the route Porec - Vrsar. Renting of the rooms and apartments is the main occupation here.
