Pazin, Croatia is a town of long and rich tradition. It is situated in the very center of the Istrian peninsula, only some thirty kilometers away from well-known tourist centres. The natural attractions include a famous Cave of Pazin, 130 m deep, with a cave abyss and a number of little lakes under Pazin. The first road leading up to it was built back in 1877. E. A. Martel, renowned French speleologist, was the first person to explore it back in 1893. As far as monuments are concerned, Castle of Pazin is to be mentioned. It is the largest and the best preserved medieval castle in Istria. In the surrounding area there are several medieval towns and villages of interest, and lovers of more active vacation will enjoy a ten-kilometers-long sandy trail of Saint simun.
