According to legend, Betina got its name from an old Celtic word "bet" which meant "mouth", which corresponds to the shape of the port in Betina. The parish church of Saint Francis with its bell tower is a masterpiece by Ivan Skoka (1736), an architect from Šibenik. This town is also known for its tradition of accomplished shipbuilders, and the very first shipyard was opened in 1848. Betina also has a modern marina for housing and repair of ships and yachts, with a capacity of 100 berths in the sea, and 200 on the land. Betina is known for its fish restaurants, and sailors know it as a starting point for a cruise towards Kornati National Park.
