According to legend, Betina,Croatia got its name from an old Celtic word "bet" which meant "mouth", which corresponds to the shape of the port in Betina. The parish church of Saint Francis with its bell tower is a masterpiece by Ivan Skoka (1736), an architect from sibenik. This town is also known for its tradition of accomplished shipbuilders, and the very first shipyard was opened in 1848.
